The Story

In 2021, Rick and Lisa Hoffman moved from their family home in Bel Air, Maryland to begin a new chapter in west Jarrettsville. With the last of their blended family out on their own, it was time to downsize the house, upsize the garage, and enjoy more land. They found the perfect spot.

They quickly settled into rural life, planting raised bed gardens and even a single lavender plant that barely survived its first year. However, the following season, after a bit of TLC and transplanting to a sunnier location, it began to flourish and bloom. That one resilient plant sparked Lisa's curiosity... and became the beginning of Lisa's Lavender.

The goals of Lisa's Lavender are simple and heartfelt: hosting community-centered events, keeping prices fair and accessible, supporting local businesses, and prioritizing domestically manufactured, i.e. Made-in-the-USA products.

The Plan

Today, Lisa and Rick have planted over 500 lavender plants and built a new barn as they prepare for a soft opening of their business in the spring of 2026. They're starting small, with a handful of affordable community events designed to bring people together. The next steps will be expanding the fields and opening the Lav-Shack, a shop in the new barn featuring unique small-batch lavender products, plus goods from local makers. They also plan to offer workshops, classes, and demonstrations, as well as participate in local farmers markets and community events.

So when you're driving along Madonna Road in Jarrettsville, keep an eye out for a field of purple during lavender season and two big blue barns, one proudly adorned with the colorful barn quilt shown..
